Medical / Dental Air & Vacuum Systems
A hospital’s medical air supply is a vital life support service, maintaining respiration of the critically ill during mechanical ventilation. Patient care requires immaculately clean, purified, medical air delivered to each patient. Dependability is essential to success in the medical air field. As such, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 99), in conjunction with the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) has created standards for medical air and medical vacuum facilities. These standards are contained in the ASSE 6000 certification and classification systems.
ASSE Series 6000, the medical gas industry standard, provides jurisdictions and employers with a nationally recognized standard to use in confirming that individuals working on critically important medical gas systems possess the knowledge and experience required.
The Series 6000 provides uniform minimum requirements, based on NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code, for medical gas and vacuum systems personnel such as installers and inspectors. ASSE 6000 also gives uniform requirements for third-party certifiers who certify these professionals.
